In the upcoming academic year of 2024/2025, Canadian scholars enrolled at the University of British Columbia (UBC) are presented with a unique chance through the Vancouver Public Scholars Awards. These prestigious honors aim to recognize and empower exceptional graduate students who demonstrate a dedicated commitment to public engagement and impactful research endeavors.

With individual allocations valued at up to $10,000 and provided twice, totaling $20,000 per recipient, these awards play a crucial role in providing financial support for innovative and collaborative scholarly pursuits that might otherwise go unexplored. Tailored to the specific needs of each recipient, the financial assistance offered through the Vancouver Public Scholars Awards at UBC for the academic year 2024/2025 encompasses various forms of support, including research grants, assistance for professional development activities, coverage of travel expenses related to scholarly endeavors, and stipends for students facing financial constraints with their existing funding sources, thereby enabling them to pursue alternative projects.

Each year, approximately 30 promising students from diverse faculties at UBC, including UBCO, qualify for this funding opportunity, with the possibility of renewal funding in the subsequent year for participants in the cohort.

University of British Columbia scholarship Benefits:

The PSI Fellowship offers financial assistance of up to $10,000, distributed in two installments, totaling $20,000 per student. Its primary objective is to facilitate inventive and collaborative academic ventures that students might find challenging to pursue due to financial restrictions. This funding support provides adaptability in its usage and encompasses two main components:

  • Research Grant: This facet of the fellowship furnishes financial aid for professional development or travel directly linked to scholarly pursuits. It includes coverage for expenses associated with research activities, attendance at conferences, or any other initiatives contributing to the progression of the proposed project.
  • Student Support Fund: In cases where a student’s current funding does not allow for involvement in alternative projects, the PSI Fellowship can allocate funds for a student stipend. This ensures that students have the essential financial backing to concentrate on their proposed alternative project(s) without encountering monetary constraints.
